-закріпити та активізувати в усному мовленні вживання лексики з тем: «Велика Британія. Лондон»;

-удосконалювати навички аудіювання;

-поглибити знання учнів про Англію та визначні місця Лондона;

-виховувати почуття причетності до світової історії та культури, почуття поваги до пам’яток культури й потребу в пізнання світової культури.

Обладнання: малюнки із зображенням прапорів Великої Британії, США, Канади, Австралії та Нової Зеландії; дошка; фотографії Англії, Лондона, річки Темзи, Тауерського мосту, лондонського Тауера, Біг-Бена, Вестмінстерського абатства, собору св. Павла, Ріджентс-парку та метро; картинки із зображенням чисел для британських грошей; магнітофон; касета з піснею “Five Currant Buns”.

 

Teacher. Hello, everyone. We start our Great Britain Quiz. Do you know that Great Britain is the short name of the country. Who knows its full name?
 
Pupil. The full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
 
Teacher. Tell us, please, how many parts does it consist of?
 
Pupil. It consists of 4 parts.
 
Teacher. What are they?
 
Pupil. They are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
 
Teacher. What other English-speaking countries do you know?
 
Pupil. I know the USA, Canada, Australia and
New Zealand.
 
Teacher. Now you can see the flags of these 5 English-speaking countries and your task is to find the flag of Great Britain.

Pupil. There are white, red and blue.
 
Teacher. Do you know what language people in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland speak?

Teacher. Well, if we speak of Great Britain, we should also speak of its capital. So, what is the capital of Great Britain?
 
Pupil. London is the capital of Great Britain.
 
Teacher. Would you like to say a few words about London? Who wants?
 
Pupil. London is the capital of Great Britain. It is one of the most interesting places in the world. About 8 million people live here. There is a big river in London – the Thames. There are many bridges over the river. Tower Bridge is the most famous. It is more than 100 years old.
 
Pu p i l. There are lots of places of interest in London. From Tower Bridge you can see the Tower of London. It is a museum now. There are hundreds of interesting collections in it. There is a famous clock in London called Big Ben.
 
Pupil. You can see splendid churches in the city. Westminster Abbey is one of the oldest royal churches. St. Paul’s Cathedral is the most wonderful classical church in Britain.
 
Pupil. London’s parks and gardens are really beautiful. In Regent’s Park there is the London Zoo. It is one of the biggest and most famous zoos in the world.
 
Pup i l. There are about 10 thousand streets in London with a lot of shops and cafes, cinemas and theatres, galleries and museums. Big red buses run up and down the streets. The oldest metro in the world, called Tube, is here in London, too.
 
Teacher. So, you’ve told us about London. Let’s see what you remember. How many people live in London?
 
Pupil. About 8 million people live there.

Pupil. Its name is the Thames.

Teacher. Where is the London Zoo, one of the biggest and most famous zoos in the world?
 
Pupil. The London Zoo is in Regent’s Park.
 
Teacher. What is the oldest underground in the world called?
 
Pupil. It’s called Tube.
 
Teacher. Well, I see you know England, its capital and the places of interest in London. What about British money? Look, I’ve got some papers with numbers on them. Let’s imagine these are British money. Your task is to choose the correct papers for pence and pounds because some of them are extra. So, who wants to come here and to choose the papers for British pence?
